The "Godly" Entrepreneur

The business world can be a very intimidating place for a Christian entrepreneur who is just getting started. Business is very competitive and everyone is seeking to be seen and heard. Making money is the core of all businesses succeeding and believe it or not, some people would do anything for money. As a Christian entrepreneur who seeks to do the right thing, this can be frightening. Most think that money will somehow corrupt their morals and interfere with their Christian living. A verse most Christian entrepreneurs are very aware of is "Money is the root of all evil." (I Tim. 6:10).

However, many Christians fail to realize that this verse holds much more meaning that it states and it changes its meaning. When you read the whole verse, you can see that it says "For the love of money is the root of all evil."

The facts: money per se cannot be the source of all evil because it is an inanimate object. A lot of good has been produced by money, and if money is so bad, then how come we always give tithes and offerings? Money is a tool! It should be used to empower and better the lives of those who use it as well as others who are in need.

The love of money is the root of all evil. This will not be denied or argued. Love can sometimes turn to greed. When greed from money becomes love, the whole focus is changed. Greed should never rule a business person’s life, especially a Christian entrepreneur. We all need money to survive and it is an important resource.

However, you should not learn to "love" it and it should not dictate your life. Money should never compromise your character or your integrity in doing business. It certainly should not be favored over doing what’s right. Greed is dangerous and can be very costly in the end. Not just to Christian entrepreneurs, but to other types of business people as well.

Greed has a way of causing you to undermine your ethical behavior which could keep you from succeeding in the long run. No one wants to do business with someone who is known for getting over. A business should be built on characteristics of protecting its consumer. In fact, it is expected that Christian entrepreneurs build their companies based on Christ-like principles.

There are many opportunities for Christian entrepreneurs to grasp and succeed. In fact, there are a lot of Christian consumers and other business owners who are seeking to do business with you.

What will it take for you to get started on your path as a Christian entrepreneur? Well, you might want to start with yourself and ask what you are seeking when you spend your money with a business? What’s important to you as a consumer? What products would Christians be willing to buy? What services can you render to Christians? What business can you offer that would not compromise your Christian principles and get in the way of your Christian living?

To start any successful business, you are going to need some help. Thankfully, there’s a lot of information and support groups to help new entrepreneurs during the start-up phase. It is recommended that you do a lot of reading and perhaps consult with others who were once where you are. The information they provide will prove to be invaluable and could save you a lot of time and money.

It is important that you understand the basics of business and entrepreneurship as well as the legal complexities in your state. Get in contact with the Christian community and scout out your potential market or more specifically, target your consumer based on what hope to accomplish. We all know how valuable information can be and the more you connect with people, the more resources you will encounter.
